Location: Remote
Role Type: Freelance / Project-Based Contract
Timezone: Flexible to Pacific Standard Time (PST)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled, commercially aware Lead Odoo Developer to architect, implement, and customize our unified Odoo environment. You will be responsible for deploying core sales and operational apps, building out Sales and eCommerce platforms, and tailoring the system to handle complex workflows across high-stakes industries including logistics, retail, healthcare, and professional services.
We are not looking for a generic Python coder. We require a Senior Freelance Architect with 4 to 6+ years of dedicated Odoo experience who understands that code is just a tool to solve complex operational bottlenecks.
Key Responsibilities
Core Architecture: Architect and deploy required core Odoo applications: Website, eCommerce (B2B & B2C), CRM, Sales, and Inventory.
Frontend Customization: Customize Odoo QWeb templates and leverage the Owl framework to build responsive, high-converting eCommerce and website pages.
Complex Routing: Configure advanced inventory routing, multi-warehouse setups, and complex product variant matrices to support aggressive distribution needs.
Backend Extension: Develop custom Python modules and API integrations to extend out-of-the-box functionality where legacy systems require bridging.
Mission-Critical Support: Serve as the definitive escalation point for high-urgency tech support tickets. You must be able to rapidly diagnose and resolve severe operational bottlenecks (e.g., halted 3PL routing, broken API checkouts) to ensure zero revenue leakage for our clients.
Requirements Translation: Translate complex business requirements from diverse industries (3PL, Healthcare, Legal, Food Distribution) into scalable, unbreakable Odoo workflows.
Required Skills & Technical Qualifications
4 to 6+ years of dedicated Odoo framework experience (version 16+ preferred, experience with v18 or v19 is a major advantage).
Technical Mastery: Deep proficiency in Python, PostgreSQL, XML, JavaScript, and Odoo’s frontend frameworks (QWeb, Owl).
Inventory Mastery: Proven track record of configuring complex Odoo Inventory setups (Push/Pull rules, Cross-docking, Dropshipping, FIFO).
eCommerce Development: Extensive experience building and customizing Odoo eCommerce platforms, specifically handling complex B2B pricing catalogs, tiered wholesale rules, and frictionless B2C checkout flows.
System Integrity: Strong understanding of Odoo security, user access rights, and complex record rules to ensure data sovereignty.
Preferred Industry Expertise
Logistics & Food Distribution (3PL, CPGs, Wholesale): Experience configuring Barcode apps, Lots/Serial Numbers, Expiration Dates, and automated Reordering Rules.
Retail & Omnichannel: Experience deploying and customizing Odoo Point of Sale (POS) linked with real-time backend inventory.
Professional Services (Law Firms, Healthcare): Familiarity with Odoo Appointments, Timesheets, Subscriptions, Sign, and Documents for secure patient and client management.
Engagement & Logistics
Structure: This is a freelance, project-based contract role tailored for an independent architect or specialized consultant.
Availability: While you have the autonomy to manage your build schedule, you must maintain flexibility to sync with our Glendora, CA team during core PST hours and respond rapidly to high-urgency support escalations.
Compensation: Payments are processed reliably every two weeks, or aligned to an agreed-upon milestone schedule for larger architectural builds.
How to Apply
Please send your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with Odoo. In your cover letter, please provide a specific example of a complex integration you have implemented. We look forward to hearing from you.
